DoP to showcase New Services During postal week

National Postal Week, which begins on Monday, will include Philately Day on October 12
Mumbai: To create awareness of its role and contribution to social and economic development, India Post will be celebrating National Postal Week from October 9, a senior Maharashtra Postal Circle official said.
“The week-long celebrations will conclude on October 14 and will highlight the various value added services launched by the postal department recently, including several customer-centric products,” H.C Agrawal, Chief Post Master General (CPMG), Maharashtra Circle, said.
World Post Day is being celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Berne, Switzerland. Declared as World Post Day by the UPU Congress in Tokyo in 1969, it is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of postal services.
Announcing the details of the National Postal Week, Mr. Agwaral said, “As part of National Postal Week, we’ll try to create more awareness of India Post’s role and activities. Our establishments across the circle will be celebrating World Post Day on October 9, Banking Day on October 10, Postal Life Insurance Day on October 11, Philately Day on October 12, Business Development Day on October 13 and Mails Day on October 14.”
He said the department was aware of customers’ changing needs and has introduced several consumer-friendly services, besides updating the operating system for its core activities.
“We have customised services like speed post, express and business parcel, e-post, money remittance services, business post, besides tying up with dozens of e-commerce companies by opening a fast-disposing business parcel centre at Parel.”
Mr. Agrawal said the department is in the process of opening business parcel centres in Pune, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Satara districts, given the success of the parcel centre at Parel. Also, in tune with the emerging e-commerce market, the parcel product has been revamped and Cash on Delivery (CoD) facility has been introduced, he said.
