Railway engineers stir on December 15 demanding Group-B status
BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) has decided to hold demonstration in front of zonal and divisional railway headquarters on December 15 demanding Group-B status to junior engineers and senior section engineers working in the Railways.
ECoREA president Bobin Mohanty said they do not get promotion from grade C to grade B. Most of them retire without getting a promotion, he alleged.
“We have been demanding before the Railways to solve our issues, but nobody pays heed to our requests. The All India Railway Engineers Federation (AIREF) is supporting us. Other zones will also conduct such demonstrations to get justice,” he added.
He said 32 members of parliament (MPs) have brought the issue to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The PMO has also recommended the Railway Ministry to consider their demand. But the Railway Board does not take any positive step. It has demoralized 80 thousand engineers like me,” he added.
Association finance secretary S B Satpathy said they will also raise the safety issues of the railways during their demonstration. “Our engineer friends are doing the crucial works related to safety of track and trains. If the railways wants to invest fund for strengthening of safety, then it should give us promotion and separate us from labourers,” he added.
They will stage token dharna in front of the ECoR headquarters at Bhubaneswar, offices of divisional railways managers (DRM) at Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Waltair on December 15.
